About the Vineyard and the wine
The Bodega is located in Mendoza, an Argentinian province that has become synonymous with wine. Mendoza produces about 70% of Argentina’s wine grapes, encompasses 358,303 acres of vineyards and is home to more than 900 wineries, rooted in the brilliant sun, pure mountain water, warm days, cool nights and poor soils. The jewel of the region is The Uco Valley – its high elevations and different stony alluvial soils create the perfect growing conditions for world-class wines.
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. After destemming, the grapes are transferred to stainless steel tanks, where cold maceration takes place at a temperature of 45 -50°F. Fermentation lasts for 10 to 15 days.
Tasting notes
The color is deep ruby red. Portillo Malbec has aromas rich with fruit, the nose is reminiscent of plums and blackberries. On the palate we note fresh flavors of redcurrant and black cherry supported by sweet, round tannins ending in a long finish with notes of cinnamon and cloves.
What to pair with Portillo Malbec?
Portillo Malbec is great to enjoy with a grilled steak, prefferably from Argentina to pair with its region of origin. It will also go very well with cold cuts such as terrines. With cheese we would recommend to go for soft blue cheese such as bleu d’Auvergne.
