About the winery and the wine
Founded by Pierre Etienne Mellot in 1513, a regional pioneer who believed in the huge potential of the Loire’s Central Vineyards, Joseph Mellot remains at the forefront of winemaking in the Loire Valley.

Chinon AOC, created in 1937 and modified in 2016, covers 2,330 hectares and 26 villages located on both Vienne banks up to its confluence with the Loire river. With their East-West orientation, the Chinon hillsides benefit from a very sunny southern exposure and an oceanic climate.

Three main types of soil: alluvial terraces (ancient and recent) of the Vienne banks, made of gravel and sand; limestone slopes and hilltops (Turonian yellow tuffeau), located on the edge of the river axes; and the mounds and plateaus essentially composed of siliceous clay and sand.

Tasting notes

A rich, vivid crimson color. Strong floral notes of rose and peony with a touch of pepper are revealed by the nose. The wine has a strong structure that adds depth and precision, and it has a robust body on the palate. Complexity is added by the emergence of violet and blueberry flavors. A long, lingering finish is maintained with a lovely balance.
