About the Vineyard and the wine
Famille Ducourt is a historic Bordeaux wine-growing family whose story began in 1858, when Pierre Ducourt acquired four hectares of vines in Ladaux, in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. Today, the family represents six generations of Bordeaux winemakers, cultivating more than 400 hectares across 13 estates and several Bordeaux appellations.
The Ducourt philosophy combines Bordeaux tradition with a modern approach to winemaking, with an emphasis on terroir, precision and sustainable viticulture. Their vineyards have been managed under HVE Level 3 environmental certification, while part of the estate has also been converted to organic farming.
The Réserve de Famille was created as a way for the Ducourt family to preserve the very best grapes from each vintage. The family selects exceptional parcels and vinifies them separately, producing limited quantities of wine intended for special occasions and long-term enjoyment. The grapes are carefully selected before being aged in French oak.
For the 2016 vintage, the wine comes from 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged in oak for 12 months, giving the wine additional depth and complexity while allowing the ripe fruit to remain at the centre of the profile.
Tasting notes
Deep red colour with dark reflections. An expressive nose of ripe black fruits, particularly blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by vanilla, spices and toasted oak. With some time in the glass, more complex notes of violet, liquorice, leather and subtle mocha can emerge. On the Palate it is rich and elegant, with generous ripe fruit, integrated oak and a pleasant peppery character. The tannins are firm but well integrated, giving the wine structure without excessive harshness. A touch of acidity brings freshness to the finish, while the oak contributes length and complexity. Long, silky and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice and oak.
What to pair with Ducourt Réserve de Famille, Bordeaux?
This wine will do wonders when associated with grilled white or red meat. We recommend to enjoy it with hearty cold cuts such as our terrines.
